Nacho “Big Red” Update

“Big Red” garb was everywhere on the MoPac last night. Thanks to all of the Nacho’ers for supporting the newest Big 10 team. Speaking of the Big 10 how about those yearly games with Big Blue and PSU, get your tickets early. Cub-Wolfe was also hawking some NU raffle tickets for the Special Olympics tennis, if you want to participate please contact the CUB.

Tools:

If any of you Nacho’ers lost a set of tools last night you can contact Cub-Wolfe This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . I found them at the entrance to the MoPac on 84th street. Hope you didn’t need them.

MoPac:

The trail was in excellent shape last night, at least when I came home at about 8:30 pm it was okay. I did hear some thunder boomers off to the northeast so hopefully you all made it home and didn’t get too wet. The MoPac has a number of over-hanging tree branches along the trail, more toward the east end so be careful if you are out after dark. Hopefully the ‘racers’ made it home and the Snickers held up.

Sheriff’s Report:

The Sheriff reports that about 90 people registered for the OEDS drawing last night. Remember that if you want to win you have to sign up (and also put the tickets in the little wooden container). The Sheriff also reported that the winner was Nathan Bitzer. Also congrats to Lori for doing her first Nacho Ride. Also a “way to go girl” to Penny who rode with a bit of a drag.

No Dust:

The thought of “No Dust” came to mind as the group rode the MoPac east to the One Eyed Dog Saloon (OEDS) on Tuesday evening.  What a difference between the ride on the 11th and this one on the 17th.  For you who did the Nacho on the 11th you may remember that the temp was about 98 degrees at 6:30 PM.  For you that made the Nacho on Tuesday the temp was 65, nice change.  We had about a half inch of rain on Tuesday so this eliminated the dust but it did make the MoPac soft and more difficult to ride.  I must confess that I, like many of you, probably checked my tires more than once thinking I had a flat.  I was really feeling sorry for myself until I was departing the OEDS and happen to observe a burley attached to Kris Skov’s bike.  After seeing this ‘super’ Nacho’er I didn’t see the need to complain about the soft trail on the way home.

MoPac:

The MoPac crew has been busy cutting back the overhanging trees and cleaning up the trail.  It appears that they have worked up to the area of 162nd St.  Great job and keep up the good work.  I did notice that there are a few dead trees along the MoPac so if you are riding in the darkness and especially after a strong wind be mindful of the possibility of some downed trees.

Hawaiian Night:

Cub-Wolfe was at the Trailhead passing out Hawaiian leis on Tuesday.  Because of the weather we didn’t have the record number of riders so Cub-Wolfe probably took the remainder home with him.  If you ride the 24th you may still receive your leis.

Nacho August 24th

This ride has been selected as the ‘Full Moon Ride’ by the Great Plains Bicycling Club http://greatplainsbikeclub.org/.  The club normally meets at dusk and then rides the entire ride with lights.  On this ride they are listing the normal starting time but if you want a twofold experience you can ride out as an extension of the Hawaiian night and come back after dark as part of the Full Moon Ride.

OEDS:

Sheriff August reported that 54 riders signed up for the drawing and the winner was Andrew K.  Don’t forget to pick up your gift certificate from Sheriff August and also remember to register, without your ticket you cannot win.

Future Rides:

Big Red Ride: August 31st so wear your Big Red garb (that would include your ‘corn head’).

That’s all for this week.  CHH

Note:  If anyone would like to write an update on the Nacho Ride please send a note to Sky (Adam) the Webmaster and he can post the update.
